Raphael Wagner – Soprano/Actor/Voice Actor

Vancouver based Artist Raphael Wagner enjoys a diverse musical career that includes Operatic and Rock Vocals as well as work in film and recording work.   Currently she performs as a tribute artist/lead vocalist appearing as Rock Icon Stevie Nicks in Gold Dust Gypsy & Forever Fleetwood.

 

In the her operatic career Raphael has  appeared as Countess Ceprano in Rigoletto, La Cugina in Madama Butterfly and Pamina in Mozart’s Magic Flute with Vancouver Opera. She

She has also performed with The Vancouver Symphony, The Vancouver Philharmonic, CBC Radio, CBC Television, Music in the Morning, The Vancouver Bach Choir, The Abbotsford Symphony, The Vancouver Festival, Vancouver Handel Society and Burnaby Lyric Opera.  Her recording work also includes numerous vocal recordings in animated film for companies such as Sony Pictures (Fairytopia – Mermaidia, Cantata for the King – CBC Television).  

Currently she performs as Gold Dust Gypsy, a tribute to the legendary fairy godmother of Rock, Stevie Nicks. Most current full band live performances at Blue Frog Studios White rock, Chilliwack Cultural center, Chief Sepass Theatre Langley. Other recent performances include local and professional summer music festivals in the  Lower Mainland/Vancouver, Vamcouver Island, the Okanagan, and many theatre performances with live band.

As a teacher Raphael has taught both privately and at a number of Universties, Colleges & Music Schools.  She has been a Professor of Singing in the UBC Department of Theatre for the past 20 years.  She was also head of the Youth Music Theatre programs for both the BC Conservatory of Music and Douglas College.  In these programs she has acted as Music Director, Stage Director, & Choreographer.  She also taught as a voice instructor in the Jazz Program at Mount Royal College of Music. Currently she teaches out of her private studios in Maple Ridge & Vancouver.

Her students have gone on to professional careers in both Stage and Film.  In addition her students have won major International Competitions such as the New York Metropolitan Opera Auditions.  Previous students include: operatic bass-baritone Tom Corbeil.  Actress Katie Findlay (How to get away with Murder, The Carrie Dairies, The Killing, Man seeking Woman), actor Torrance Coombs (Reign, The Tudors, Heartland, Endgame, Jpod), actress Agnes Tong (Romeo Section, Fatal Rhapsody), and actress Anastasia Philips (Bomb Girls, MVP, Stoked, Skins).

In additon to teaching singing she has worked as a voice and speech coach for members of the Media.  Past students include Tamara Taggart (anchor for BCCTV), and reporter Penny Daflos.
